Entrepreneurship and Family Business

Build new ventures and lead enduring family enterprises with modern tools.

Programme Overview

Designed for students building new ventures as well as those inheriting or joining existing enterprises, this specialisation blends classic entrepreneurship — ideation, validation, funding and scaling — with the distinct governance, succession and relational challenges of family-run businesses.

It draws on India’s deep family-business tradition while equipping students with modern venture-building tools, from lean validation and fundraising to franchise and scaling models. Graduates leave able to start something new, or to professionalise and grow what their family has already built.

Why This Specialisation Matters in 2027

Family businesses account for a very large share of India’s economy and employment, and a generational transition is underway as next-gen leaders take charge. At the same time, India’s startup ecosystem continues to mature. Both trends create strong demand for founders and next-generation leaders who understand governance, finance and scaling.

The ability to combine entrepreneurial venture-building with the softer, relational skills of running a multi-generational firm is rare and highly valuable in the current environment.

Not at all. The entrepreneurship, finance and scaling skills apply to any new venture, and graduates also move into startup, venture-capital and advisory roles.
It directly addresses governance, succession, conflict and wealth — the issues that determine whether family firms survive generational transitions — which most general MBA programmes do not cover in depth.
